when web people think architecture

I don’t recall when or how I found highscalability.com but it’s one of the sites that I bookmark and review periodically. Finally, a website that caters to us application/server folks that need to know what it takes to build an environment that support gazillion users.

Each architecture write up addresses the platforms used by each tier of the application from load-balancers to the APIs used between systems to client-side scripts. Of course, network components are rarely addressed in these architectures (and a lot of time server/apps ppl don’t consider slb a network device).

Featured architectures include youtube, amazon, google, and flickr. Plus there are additional useful links to write ups on things like on-demand database, scaling mail servers, and clustering.
